Ymt is an experimental publication about Visual Communication Design as a field of knowledge, published annually by the students of visual communication, at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen.

My role in the production of Ymt vol. 3 was the leader of the group responsible for art direction, visual identity, and graphic details. As a team, we brainstormed different visual identities, concepts, and ideas to fit the theme of this year’s publication: distances.
The visual identity of the magazine is based around the idea of gaining different perspectives to better understand distances. Therefore, the magazine has no true start or end, no page numeration and not one single cover page. Instead, navigation is gained by using an attached map or one of three page-dividers, serving as points of reference.

Ymt is edited by Dóra Ísleifsdóttir and Åse Huus. Peter Jones and Victoria Squire, editors of Message – an international academic journal about Graphic communication design are on Ymt’s editorial advisory board.

Ymt is created in an Editorial design and visual identity course with second-year BA students of Visual communication, who work with content from academic staff at KMD, MA alumni, and contributors from the field in the Nordic and Baltic region and the makers’ wider network.

Teachers in the Editorial design and visual identity course in which Ymt is made are Dóra Ísleifsdóttir, Åse Huus, Magnus Nyquist, and Albert Cheng-Syun Tang.
